How does the fetal heart rate monitor work?
The Doppler probe sends high frequency sound waves into the body. It shouldn't be mixed with radiation. When the position of the fetal heart reflects the ultrasound waves, the frequency of the waves is changed. The fetal Doppler receives the reflected sound waves and uses the Doppler Effect concept to calculate the change in frequency and provides an audible simulation of the heartbeat. This sound is then amplified through the headphones. Fetal Dopplers have been around for many decades, and no adverse effects have ever been reported from their use.
Is the fetal heart rate monitor safe?
The Fetal Doppler detects your unborn baby’s heart rate using ultrasound technology, i.e. high frequency sound waves. Our fetal Doppler device is a completely safe, CE certified and FDA approved fetal heart rate monitor. It has received the following approvals and certificates:
- CE Certified (CE0123), EN ISO 13485:2003 compliant
- Medical Device Classifications: EU MDD Class IIa and FDA Class II
Can the mobile device radiation harm the baby when recording the heartbeat with the app?
No,It is completely safe, but if you are too worried about electronic noises and cellular and wireless radiation you may switch your mobile device to airplane mode to avoid those signals when monitoring with the fetal heart rate monitor device.. BabyHeartBeat app doesn't require any usage of cellular or wireless networks when a fetus is monitored with the Doppler. Although if you would like to save the graphs and sounds on the server, you need to have wireless access.
When can I start using the BabyHeartBeat fetal monitoring?
As a general rule, from week 12 of the pregnancy on. An important note is to remember that everyone is different, so not finding your baby's heartbeat early isn't a reason for concern. Most women are able to hear the fetal heartbeat from the 16th week. It is more difficult to find out the heartbeats in overweight moms.
What should the fetal heart rate typically be?
The baby's heart rate is usually between 120 and 160 beats per minute, much faster than your own. The baby's normal fetal heart rate will also vary naturally, just as your heart rate does. Movement, sleeping and other activities can cause a normal variation also outside of the typical range momentarily. Also extra noises, such as the mother's heartbeat or stomach rumbling or static caused by Doppler probe movement, can mask the signals causing unreliable Doppler measurement. Be sure to talk to your midwife or doctor about concerns that you have with your baby's heart rate.
Should I use ultrasound gel?
You will receive a small tube of ultrasound gel with your Doppler device. Ultrasound gel enables better skin contact for the doppler probe and makes it possible to find your baby's heartbeat. Since high frequency sound waves do not travel readily through air, ultrasound gel is applied to the fetal doppler as well as your belly in order for the Fetal Doppler's probe to detect these sound waves.
What is the password to access the App?
The Baby Heart Beat App is designed to be used with BabyHeartBeat device. The password is written in the Serial No. on back side of the device.
What is the procedure for monitoring the Heartbeats?
First try to find the heartbeats. Switch on the device, add the earphones for the cable version, add a beat of Ultrasound gel and start searching for the heartbeat signals, once you find out the beats, remember the position of the baby and use the connection cables to connect the device to the mobile phone. The end that connects to the mobile phone is indicated with orange color. Go to the app, in the monitoring, chose the cable version and press start, you will see the monitoring environment.

How can I check the history records?
In the History of the application, you see in the left column the date of the measurement, the 2nd column is the baby’s heartbeat sound, the 3rd column is measurement graphs in the 6th column, you can share the data with your doctor and using the 4th column, you may share the data with your friends and families using 5th column and last column allow you to delete the data.
The measurement graphs are saved in the images of 5 minute duration for each measurement.
What sounds may I detect?
During the pregnancy, it may happen to hear other sounds than baby’s Heartbeats. These sounds include:
Uterine souffle a sound made by the blood within the arteries of the gravid uterus.
a sound made by the passage of blood through the arteries of the pregnant uterus. The sounds are synchronized with the maternal heart rate.
a blowing sound, synchronous with the cardiac systole of the mother, heard on auscultation of the pregnant uterus.
funic souffle (funicular souffle) a hissing souffle synchronous with fetal heart sounds, probably from the umbilical cord.
In short, you may hear your own heart beat, You can check just your own heartbeat to have an idea on your own heartbeat and then continue looking for baby’s heartbeat to be able to differentiate the two different heartbeats. Your own heart beat is usually between 60 to 80 beats per minute.

What is the usual technique to find the baby’s heart location?
The usual practice to find baby’s heart location is Leopol’s maneuver. To perform this maneuver, lie on your back with your shoulder raised a little on a pillow and your knees drawn up a little.
Start searching with fingers of both your hands in the upper abdomen.The fetal head is hard, round, and moves independently of the trunk while the buttocks feel softer, are symmetric, and the shoulders and limbs have small bony processes; unlike the head, they move with the trunk.
After finding the shape in the upper abdomen. Start searching for the backbone of baby. First the right hand remain steady on one side of the abdomen with deep pressure using the palm of the hand and the left hand explore the left side of the abdomen and the same process is repeated using the opposite side.The fetal back will feel firm and smooth while fetal extremities (arms, leg, etc.) should feel like small irregularities.
Third maneuver is to find out which part of inlet is lying above lower abdomen. he individual performing the maneuver first grasps the lower portion of the abdomen just above the pubic symphysis with the thumb and fingers of the right hand. This maneuver should yield the opposite information and validate the findings of the first maneuver.
The fourth maneuver, The fingers of both hands are moved gently down the sides of the uterus toward the pubis. The side where there is resistance to the descent of the fingers toward the pubis is greatest is where the brow is located. If the head of the fetus is well-flexed, it should be on the opposite side from the fetal back. If the fetal head is extended though, the occiput is instead felt and is located on the same side as the back.
